Jamie Jones-Buchanan says Super League side ‘aren’t fit enough’

Though Jamie Jones-Buchanan’s former team the Leeds Rhinos came up short against the Castleford Tigers last week, the seven-time Super League Champion – whose final title came at the expense of the Tigers in 2017 – identified a problem for the Tigers.

He claimed that the team aren’t fit enough and suggested that this could see them found out more often than not.

He said on Sky Sports: “It’s a results based game, it is about wins and losses at the ends of the weeks.

“If you’re not getting wins them people come at you with the blow torch.

“I feel sorry for Castleford because I think a lot of their problems are because of the physical nature of the team.

“They’re not fit enough, they’re not quick enough, they’re not urgent enough.

“Against Huddersfield last week, when Will Pryce came on he came on and tore them to pieces.

“It wasn’t anything to do with desire, they looked desperate, but they just didn’t seem to have the physical capabilities to do it.”

He also suggested that the team was too old:

“I look at that team and I see a lot of players I played against a lot and I’m 42 years old. That’s not a bad thing, players have played for longer but you have to be absolutely pristine with your diet and health and I just don’t think that they are at that.”
