International star and Super League target avoids punishment for “homophobic” social media post

Wests Tigers star and Lebanon international Adam Doueihi has been the subject of controversy over the weekend.

This is because the versatile spine player commented on a Premier League post over the weekend in a move that has been described as “homophobic.”

The Premier League were celebrating rainbow laces this weekend with a round of fixtures devoted to the LGBTQ+ community and the post on social media was focused on this and Doueihi commented, “embarrassing post.”

He has subsequently been slammed by many with club Wests Tigers requesting an explanation for the post with reports revealing that the stand-off claimed he didn’t realise that his comment could be seen as homophobic and when he realised, he deleted the post.

Having received this response, the club have now determined that he will not be punished.

“It wasn’t Adam’s intention to hurt anyone. We’ve spoken to him and no further action will be taken,” the club said.

“The club is committed to being an inclusive place for all, we welcome people of all parts of society to be part of our club. Our mission statement as a club is to enrich lives of community and that we are all inclusive.”

The club are keen to move on from this saga and have posted an update on Brent Naden after a difficult year for injuries.

“It was a pretty frustrating season. I only played eight games so it was a year full of injuries and a couple of suspensions in there too,” Naden told NRL.com.

“For me personally, it hasn’t been lonely as much as it’s been frustrating because I couldn’t be out there with the boys and it’s such a slow process.

“But I’ve tried to stay positive, I think the physios are sick of me already and it’s only week two of pre-season.

“They’ve bounce me around between them…‘you take Nado, no you take him,’ I give them a pretty hard time but it’s all for a laugh. I think they’ll be hoping to see me back out there more than anyone.

“But I’m excited to put my best foot forward. Do all my rehab, train hard, do all the right things and come back for 2024. A bit like a fresh start I suppose.”
