“I think…” – Steve McNamara has major say on controversial calls against Leeds Rhinos

Steve McNamara made plea after defeat to Leeds Rhinos

Catalans Dragons Head Coach has had his say after his side lost to Leeds Rhinos in Super League Round Three.

McNamara believed that his side only had themselves to blame after they came up short against the Leeds Rhinos 18-10 highlighting their inability to turn possession into points.

McNamara said: “I think there’s a few there. I think we felt like we dominated field position and possession a lot in the first half but we didn’t play with any sort of zip, any speed there in attack.

“It was a little bit blunt there but I thought we dominated most of that first half but then conceding back-to-back tries, conceding a try and then kicking off and conceding another try and an eight-point try and a man in the sin bin suddenly with 10-0 down so I thought response at the start the second half was superb.

“I thought we came out and played with some real speed we upped the tempo we looked dangerous we dominated the game and then there was another big momentum swing in terms of not feeling the kick-off and then last 20 minutes it was you know lack of discipline probably in the last 20 minutes.”

McNamara was also asked about the yellow cards his side suffered against the Leeds Rhinos. He pleaded to the RFL to leave the punishments to just yellow cards as he noted the difficulty around the situation as the sport deal with new rules.”

He said: “No, I think it’s very very difficult for everybody concerned right now for everybody, players, referees, everybody included in that. I don’t think there was anything too bad in that.

“I thought the yellow cards, if there’s going to be yellow cards, there’s yellow cards, but there shouldn’t be probably anything other than that. I thought there was probably one incident in what probably went unpunished very early in the game, what was probably the worst of the lot, what never got punished, but that’s for everybody else, so we’ll leave that as we go.”

It is the second year in a row that Catalans have lost their 100% record to the Leeds Rhinos.
