Hull KR star acting as hurdle in possible major triple signing

Tyrone May has been confirmed as a target for one NRL side intending to unite all three of the May brothers, but the Hull KR man’s contract situation could cause stumbling blocks.

Tyrone is the elder of the three brothers and has made an electric start to life with his new club Hull KR, forming what looks set to be a dangerous partnership in the halves with Mikey Lewis.

Super League fans got to see just how dangerous the youngest brother Taylan was when he shone against Wigan Warriors in the World Club Challenge, albeit Jai Field denied him a try with a brilliant tackle before May was then ruled to have not grounded the ball in the final seconds controversially.

Middle brother Terrell is the man who has sparked the speculation and notion that the three brothers will sign a deal with the same club after he revealed that whichever side offered contracts for all three would be the team to land them.

Sydney Roosters prop Terrell had stated that on the Bloke In A Bar podcast in January which triggered widespread speculation with both the NRL stars off contract at the end of the season, however, Tyrone is contracted to Hull KR until the end of the 2025 season.

Despite that, the Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that St George Illawarra Dragons are intending to make a play for two of the brothers, if not all three, with the possibility that Tyrone could join following the expiry of his contract with Hull KR.

They report: “The Red V have expressed an interest in Terrell and Taylan, and officials are open to the prospect of Tyrone also joining up in the future should an opportunity arise.”

However, it is clear that the Hull KR man will be the hardest piece of the puzzle with the Herald adding: “Bringing them together is a logistical challenge given they all have different managers and, in Tyrone’s case, he is contracted to a team playing in another hemisphere.”

There are certainly legs in the story though with Dragons’ head coach Shane Flanagan openly speaking about the situation, confirming interest if the trio make it to the open market.

Speaking to the Herald, he said: “If they are going to market, we would be interested.

“At the moment I don’t know if they’re going to consider leaving their current clubs. If they are, we will definitely look at it. One plays in the outside backs and is a dangerous player from a good club. Same with [Terrrell], he’s from a good club and I’ve heard Trent Robinson talk about the motor that he has.

“I don’t want to jump in too far when I don’t know if they are considering leaving their club.”

Given both the form shown and the contract situation of Tyrone, it’s highly unlikely that there is any immediate move for all three brothers, but the Hull KR man could well make a return to the NRL and unite with his brothers for the 2026 season.

St George aren’t the first NRL side to consider a move for all three brothers with Canterbury Bulldogs having previously been interested in a deal, but Phol Gould has since confirmed that the Belmore club have withdrawn any interest.

Per reports down under, Taylan seems to be the most in-demand of the brothers with Michael Chammas of the Herald revealing that Penrith have already offered a contract to the 22-year-old, but that Melbourne, Sydney Roosters and St George are all also monitoring the situation.
