Hull FC sent back to the drawing board as Salford end their winning run

Round 13 concluded today in Salford in front of the OurLeague cameras as Salford Red Devils hosted Hull FC.

You would be forgiven for forgetting they had a game this week given the focus on Salford star Tyler Dupree’s future with Hull KR and Wigan Warriors interested in paying Salford for his services.

If those questions where plaguing the Red Devils squad, it saw the Red Devils fall behind early as a brilliant move started by Brad Fash took the ball wide allowing Adam Swift to race down the wing before finding Clifford in support.

Dupree had to do a lot of defensive work in the opening stages but in a week where his future dominated the headlines he showed his class as he carved through Hull with great footwork and strength to make it 6-4.

Hull would then retake the lead as Jake Trueman dummied over for a lovely halfback’s try but his opposite man Brodie Croft conjured up a response for Deon Cross with a lovely little kick for the centre.

The Red Devils had an 18-10 lead at the break thanks to a brilliant 60 metre kick from Sneyd straight from a scrum that was chased and touched down by Ryan Brierley.

Hull needed the first try of the second half and they got it as a delightful cut out pass allowed Darnell McIntosh to score. That made it 18-16 however Salford soon had their eight point lead back when after a lovely break down field led to Marc Sneyd and Sam Stone combining for Sneyd to score.

Hull weren’t going away and an intercept from McIntosh gave them the position to strike through Josh Griffin and it was game back on but crucially Salford got the next score again.

A lovely set play with Ken Sio crowning his return with a try. For the first time in the game against his former club he missed the shot at goal.

Hull went short sensing a shot at the draw but the kick didn’t go 10 giving Sneyd a shot at a penalty but he pulled it wide. However as Hull had to kick a 20 metre drop out Sneyd made amends nailing a drop goal to make it 29-22.

Hull FC tried to spark a sensational finish but missed a late penalty.

Marc Sneyd was sin binned with six seconds left.
