Hull FC: New signing Ben Reynolds not selected despite Richie Myler admission

Hull FC have named their 21-man squad to face London Broncos on Sunday but new signing Ben Reynolds hasn’t been named surprisingly.

Reynolds has had a season of transfers so far with the former Leigh Leopards star moving to his hometown club of Featherstone Rovers in the off-season. Reynolds was appointed as club captain but didn’t play a single league game for the Flat Cappers before moving to Hull KR.

The Robins signed him to serve as a back-up for Mikey Lewis and Tyrone May and since then Reynolds has made Championship appearances for Featherstone on either dual reg or loan deals, but he played just once for Hull KR before departing Craven Park.

That sole appearance came in Hull KR’s drubbing against Catalans with Reynolds deputising for the injured Mikey Lewis, however, Reynolds has now landed at Hull FC with the club confirming his signing earlier this week.

Reynolds made the move West across the city to Hull FC with the Robins bringing in Danny Richardson as an immediate replacement. Since then Richie Myler spoke of Reynold’s quality and the fact he was “excited to see what he add to the group, starting this weekend against London”.

The problem is though that Ben Reynolds has not been named in the 21-man squad that Hull FC will take down to London.

Star signing left out of Hull FC squad

There is set to be a debutant for Hull FC but that is loan signing Tiaki Chan with the forward having arrived from Wigan Warriors and being thrown straight into the mix.

He’ll incredibly don the number 46 shirt, despite the fact the season is still short of the halfway mark, highlighting just how many players Hull FC have been forced to use, be they youth, loanees or new signings.

Ben Reynolds’ absence, reported by Hull Live as being the result of a fresh injury and not simply a snub, means that Jack Charles will retain his place in the halves alongside the fit-again Jake Trueman.

Charles has shone for the Black and Whites and has been one of the few highlights in a season of low points, however, the club will be hoping to change that this weekend against London.

The Broncos are the only winless side in Super League and also the only side that Hull FC have managed to beat with victory in Round Three being Hull’s only win so far.

That victory came courtesy of a late Morgan Smith try with Hull FC just scraping through 28-24, the victory being received by a chorus of boos at the MKM Stadium.

Since then Hull FC have dismissed Tony Smith and lots of forward progress and intent has been shown under interim head coach Simon Grix and new Director of Rugby Richie Myler, however, a win has not been forthcoming.

That said, much-improved performances have come against both Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves and a convincing win on Sunday would help get fans back on side.

Hull FC will have to do so without the likes of Reynolds and those others on the injury list including Carlos Tuimavave, Brad Fash, Jack Ashworth, Miteli Vulikijapani, Nick Staveley and Cobie Wainhouse.

They’re also without the departing trio of Liam Tindall (Loan to Bradford Bulls), Ed Chamberlain (Recalled from loan by Leigh Leopards) and Jack Brown (Transferred to Hull KR), with those three men replaced by debutant Chan and fellow forwards Zach Jebson and Matty Laidlaw.
