Huddersfield Giants make one change after avoiding suspensions for game with Salford Red Devils

Friday night sees a return of Super League and there is one game that looks crucial to the race for the playoffs and that pits Huddersfield Giants against Salford Red Devils in a battle of seventh versus tenth,

The Giants loss at the weekend to St Helens ended a run of four consecutive wins but Ian Watson’s men are still just four points shy of the playoff spots, whereas Salford sit two points adrift.

Salford are on a torrid run of form in which they’ve lost seven straight games, with six of those coming in Super League, yet they still are within touching distance of the playoff places which highlights how close the fight for the top six is.

Paul Rowley has named his squad for this vital game and the Red Devils are operating at close to full strength for the first time in a while.

All the key spine players of Brieley, Croft, Sneyd and Ackers have been named and look set to feature whilst key outside backs in Ken Sio, Tim Lafai and Jo Burgess are also named.

Skipper Kallum Watkins had returned previously and he’s named once again, as is their new recruit Brad Singleton, who the Red Devils acquired in a swap deal for Tyler Dupree.

As for the Giants they’ve made just one change to their squad that fell to defeat on Sunday with Ash Goulding dropping out due to injury.

His replacement is skipper Luke Yates who has recovered from an ankle injury to take his place, however there is still no return for Jermaine McGillvary who is just one try short of the 250th of his career.

Both Joe Greenwood and Matty English are available despite being sent their marching orders at the weekend, with English’s cannon-ball style tackle receiving no further punishment than the yellow card he initially received.

Whereas Greenwood was hit with a Grade B charge for striking in the incident which saw him sent off but he didn’t pick up any ban for that action.
