For the second weekend in a row, Hull FC have conceded 50 points.
This time Tony Smith’s Hull FC side conceded 50 points to a Super League rival but this time the Black and Whites found themselves knocked out of the Challenge Cup.
This has left their fans raising questions about the Black and Whites moving forward as they start the season with just one win from their opening six games.
Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside after the game, Tony Smith said of the performance: “It was a poor start. We fought our way back in for a while but it just wasn’t good enough and we missed too many tackles.
“We weren’t able to sustain enough intensity to put our opposition under enough pressure and when you don’t do that and you let them off the hook too easily, it hurts you and it’s hurt us today.”
Last 20 minutes were “horrible” says Hull FC boss
The Hull FC Head Coach went on to say that his side were “horrible” as he said: “Yeah, it’s horrible. It’s horrible to watch for all, except if you’re a Huddersfield Giant supporter, of course. They enjoyed that bit. Otherwise, no, it’s not pleasant.
“We had some boys out on their feet and out on their legs from some of those earlier things. We need to toughen up, we need to not allow ourselves to get into those positions. They are the lessons, they are harsh, but they are the ones that we have got to learn and we have got to learn quick.
“It’s ruthless in this level of sport. If you are not on it and you are not competing to the highest level, well, you can easily get plenty of points put past you so we’ve got to toughen up.
“I’d like to be able to remove some people from that situation, but at the moment we just can’t do that.”
Smith’s side will take on his former club Hull KR next week in a huge derby as Hull FC look to really kickstart their season especially now they are out of the cup.
