“Embarrassing again” – Castleford Tigers fans furious at third straight loss

Super League

Castleford Tigers were aiming to get their first win of the Super League season tonight and despite starting well against Warrington Wolves, the night ended as yet another loss for Craig Lingard’s men.

There was a key change for Castleford Tigers with the impressive Charbel Tasipale left out of the squad, the second-rower having been bumped and bruised in the loss to Salford so likely wrapped in cotton wool at this early stage in the season.

Alex Mellor took his place, a very strong replacement, but ultimately it didn’t help change the result with the Tigers losing out 30-8 in the end.

It marked the second week in a row that Warrington put up 30 or more points and it was also the second time this year that Castleford had conceded 30 or more, a worrying stat for Craig Lingard’s side, and a result that Sky Sports pundit Barrie McDermott had predicted could happen.

Despite being outsiders for the match, the positive start that Castleford made only to go and lose heavily once again has seen fans take to social media to vent their frustrations with their side.

“Another long season ahead” – Castleford Tigers lose third in a row

One of Warrington’s strengths last season when they were so dominant was their pack and it got on top again tonight with the likes of Paul Vaughan, Joe Philbin and James Harrison making serious yardage.

Castleford Tigers simply couldn’t compete and a common complaint among fans after the loss was their own lack of strength at forward.

One fan politely asked: “Can we sign some decent forwards,” but others were far more blunt.

Another stated: “For the love of God, bin off these Championship props and sign some actual quality. The backs aren’t too bad but the platform is garbage. That’s the difference at the moment.”

Several fans were right in praising the effort, the Tigers having put in plenty of hard minutes in their first three games of the season but others weren’t interested in that.

One said: “Embarrassing again, don’t wanna hear anything about effort cos we’re just not good enough.”

“Men against boys”, was the assessment of another fan.

“Another long season ahead”, was the reaction of another on social media.

The Tigers return to the Jungle next week when they welcome Huddersfield Giants, a possible avenue for their first win of the season.
