Castleford Tigers unable to beat newly promoted London Broncos in surprise result

Castleford Tigers vs London Broncos

After beating Keighley Cougars comprehensively last week, Castleford Tigers looked to back that up against London Broncos today.

The newly promoted London travelled over to Castleford to get a flavour of Super League ahead of their first season back in the top tier since 2019 when they were relegated on points difference alone.

They have made some impressive signings lately such as former Hull FC star Hakim Miloudi and have also drafted in former Leeds Rhinos target and Wakefield Trinity winger Lee Kershaw on trial.

They were taking on Castleford Tigers side without the injured Alex Mellor but new signings Luke Hooley, Josh Simm, Sam Wood, Innes Senior, Samy Kibula and Nixon Putt all starting.

It was a chance for Putt to cement himself as the replacement for Mellor.

It did not take long for Castleford to get things going as they notched the first try after just four minutes of action.

They were awarded a Six Again under the posts and then spread the ball wide to Sam Wood who powered over on his home debut for the club. Danny Richardson on his return then notched the goal to make it 6-0 for Lingard’s men.

Cas tried to increase the pressure but in the end, London would have the next say on the scoreboard from their first attack. A kick by Meadows allowed Storey to touch down and level the game at 6-all.

Crucially for the Tigers though Innes Senior would score twice either side of a yellow card for Oli Leyland. The first saw him beat his man before he was on hand just before the break to go in untouched after a lovely ball from Luke Hooley. That made it 14-6 at the break with neither converted.

As he returned to the pitch, Leyland took a lovely offload and cut inside to score to make it 14-10. The Broncos were well and truly back in the game. This came as Liam Horne was the latest to be sin-binned for a late hit.

London were now on top and a kick from Leyland, who was pulling the strings, saw Hakim Miloudi score a debut try. Again the conversion was missed, and this left matters level.

That’s how they would stay with the Tigers squandering a late chance to win the game. The game ended 14-14.
