Adrian Lam has his say on Hull KR resting star men

Leigh Leopards coach Adrian Lam

Leigh Leopards and Hull KR are headed to Wembley but both teams had very different games last week against Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors.

In a rematch from the Challenge Cup semi-final, Hull KR were soundly beaten by Wigan as they rested almost all their stars even making loan signings to protect their big names.

Leigh went nearly full strength as they defeated Leeds. The only absentees were Zak Hardaker and Josh Charnley.

On this Adrian Lam said on YouTube: “We had a couple of late pull outs with Zak Hardaker and Josh Charnley but I think players who came in did a brilliant job as well.

“Just minor issues, like strains, one sore ankle and one strain so there’s no issue there either. Yeah, they’ll be fine.

“I thought Leeds had a pretty tough week really losing Myler for whatever term it is, and then the Austin one late on would have certainly turned their place upside down.

“They’re two of their more ‘X-factor’ type players but we just made a pact to just be us again you know don’t look back, don’t look forward and come here and we just talked about being in the game with 15 minutes to go give ourselves a chance/

“I thought we didn’t get a call on that first half there’s a couple of really tough ones there and I think they had eight more sets than us so to go in only two points down there was a fair bit of confidence coming out of that dressing room at half time.”

He also had his say on Hull KR resting players:

“It’s a six day turnaround, I can’t believe it but we can’t change any of that. Hull KR will do whatever they need to do. I think, again, it’s more about just when the time comes that everyone’s on the same page for us.

“It’s a massive game for both clubs, I understand that, but we’re going to try and enjoy the week as much as we can. We’ve hardly going to train obviously, so we’ll be OK come Saturday.

He also addressed selection for next week:

“Yeah, that’s all I could think about after the game to be honest with you, was someone’s going to have to miss out there or in the way. I mean that’s the hardest part about being coached but it’s also a position that I’m grateful that we’re in, that we’ve got players to pick from.

“I think the only one missing is Ricky Leutele, so Kai O’Donnell made his return today after the six week suspension which was great, I mean hed was awesome out there today and we’ve missed him.

“Oliver Gildart made his debut for us today but not going to play next week, Tom Nisbett came on to that left wing and Ava Seumanufagi hasn’t played for six or seven weeks, and Joe Wardle’s missed the whole season so yeah we’ll have a few to pick from.”
