Adrian Lam believes justice done after “dubious” call

Leigh Leopards coach Adrian Lam

Leigh Leopards won a dramatic Challenge Cup Final against Hull KR yesterday thanks to a golden point drop goal from Lance Todd trophy winner Lachlan Lam.

Golden point was certainly dramatic with Hull KR awarded an immediate penalty but Brad Schneider missed touch.

Leigh had the first shot at the drop goal but missed leading to a 50 metre effort from Schneider which missed.

This gave the chance back to Leigh and Lam stepped up with his first ever Challenge Cup.

That penalty to Hull KR could have been decisive till Schneider missed touch.

This, in the view of coach Adrian Lam, was justice.

He explained: “Yeah, well to be fair, I thought the penalty given for a strip shouldn’t have been a penalty. No, it looked dubious. Yeah, so it was probably a little bit of fate going away there.

“Yeah, maybe it was key but yeah, it’s just moments in the game, isn’t it? It’s like moments in life that just come and go and you kick that out, you never know.”

Meanwhile, his son and match winner Lachlan Lam explained the process of nailing the drop goal:

“Yeah, we’ve done a lot of work over the last month. We’re coming into the time of the year that you want to be playing in.

With the quality of competition you’re going to be in that spot at some stage. So we’ve done a lot of practice on that. Gaz has been our guy.

“He kicked one a week ago against Leeds and he flushed them all the time at training, he’s missed a cool conflict, he doesn’t miss me. He missed that first one and he had the trust to throw it back to me to take that kick.

“That just comes down to mateship off the field, the type of people we want and have around our team, to have that trust to throw those passes because he has made so many of them at training.”

It was certainly a terrific piece of skill to decide a terrific and tight game between two games it was almost impossible to separate.
