Jon Wilkin makes strange connection between bull fiasco and St Helens defeat

Last week St Helens lost for the third time in four games as their difficult start to the season.

However, the defeat lived in the shadow of the fiasco with a bull running onto the field before the game.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Rugby League Verdict, Wilkin made an interesting connection between the bull running onto the field and St Helens’ woes.

“I think it is unlikely they will finish top, I think that is safe to say. Their attack has been faltering. I think they tried far too hard with the ball against Catalans and pushed things maybe a bit too much,” he started,

“I thought the writing was an the wall when before the game that bull escaped onto the pitch and chased the Catalans and St Helens players off the pitch.

“The writing was on the wall when that happened, they might as well have stayed off the pitch, the bull was doing them a favour.”

However he still backed the Saints to get going in the end and potentially win the Grand Final from fifth:

“I am sure they will get going. They won’t finish top but the beauty of the play-offs is that you can win it from third, fourth, fifth and St Helens will be able to do that.”
