Championship side make a move to replace Super League bound star

Barrow Raiders had an impressive season in 2022 as they finished fifth in the Championship and one of the key reasons for that success was the tries from winger Tee Ritson who racked up a joint league-leading 28.

Ritson caught the eyes of many and it was the best team in the country at the moment that swooped for him with St Helens adding the talented winger to their squad for 2023.

That had left Barrow with a 28 try hole on their wing but they’ve announced today the singer of Andrew Bulman on a one-year deal to try and fill Ritson’s shoes.

Bulman was without a club having left Whitehaven at the end of the 2022 season but he’s made the switch to the other Cumbrian side in the Championship by joining the Raiders.

At just 23 Bulman has an incredible scoring record of 45 tries in 67 games for Haven and he’ll hope to replicate that as Barrow chase another successful season.

Bulman told the Raider’s website: “I’ve needed a bit of a change, and whenever you come here, there’s always a big crowd,” Bulman said.

“Barrow finished in the top four last season, and having spoken to a few people around the place, one of the key reasons for me joining is the ambition of the club. They want to be at the top of the table.

“Given the opportunity, I can score tries. I’ll only score more with the way that Barrow plays rugby. They throw the ball around a lot and like to get the ball to the edges, and that’s quite promising for me.”

Barrow chairman Steve Neale added: “We are absolutely delighted with the acquisition of Andrew Bulman, and our patience has been rewarded by picking up such a quality player so late in the day.

“He will be the perfect replacement for Tee Ritson and I’m sure the Barrow public will quickly take him to their hearts.”
