Despite a nearly flawless campaign in the Betfred Championship, Adrian Lam has missed out on the Coach of the Year award.
This is because the award went the way of Paul Crarey of the Barrow Raiders. Certainly deserved, he has guided the newly promoted side to the play-offs finishing as high as fourth after an outstanding start to the campaign.
He has developed the likes of Tee Ritson whilst bringing the best out ex-Hull FC star Hakim Miloudi and ex-Wigan Jarrod Sammutt.
The Raiders sadly missed out on the semi-finals losing last week to eventual finalists Batley. Nonetheless, Crarey certainly deserves his award up against two great contenders in Adrian Lam who seems set to guide the Centurions to Super League and Simon Grix of Halifax Panthers.
Grix assembled an outstanding squad capable of challenging Featherstone towards the end of the season with the likes of Joe Keyes developing into an outstanding player and being nominated for Player of the Year.
Lam, having finished top and won the 1895 Cup Final and hardly losing a game all year, would have also been a worthy winner.
But there can be no disputing the job Crarey has done at Barrow working wonders taking them from perceived relegation fodder to the play-offs.
Meanwhile, Keighley’s Rhys Lovegrove picked up the League 1 Player of the Year Award for guiding the Cougars to the Championship with a brilliant season.
The Cougars are on the up at the moment and have already made some major signings for next year including ex-Wakefield Brad Walker.
