Sam Tomkins identifies the two key players in today’s Challenge Cup Final and has his say on venue switch

Sam Tomkins will be one of the guests of honour at today’s Challenge Cup Final as England Men’s captain and will be joined by women’s skipper Emily Rudge and wheelchair captain Tom Haliwell as we all look forward to the three World Cups later this year.

Of course, a two-time winner of the competition and one of Super League’s stars, Tomkins would much rather be playing in today’s final but described being a guest as a huge honour:

“Yeah huge honour. It’s such a great event, I’d much rather be playing in it but second to that is to be a guest so really happy to be invited.”

He also had his say on the move to the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium a shift from the traditional Wembley: “I’ve never been, I had a friend who was working on it a while ago so I saw pictures of it as it was being developed. The players will love it. As sportsmen you love to play on the biggest stages so to have a stadium as magnificent as this one is going to be special.”

The England skipper also identified the players he thinks could decide the game for either side today: “For Wigan it’s got to be Jai Field. He’s been the league’s most exciting player so far this year and gotten Wigan out of a few scrapes as well.

“For Huddersfield it’s probably Tui Lolohea. He’s a very good player and will have to have one of his best games if they’re going to beat Wigan.”
