Sky criticised for ‘shocker’ rugby league breaking news

Sky Sports Rugby League has been heavily criticised for its ‘amateurish’ breaking news of Jake Connor signing a new two-year deal at Hull FC.

It’s probably one of the most important contract renewals of the season, but the way in which Sky Sports Rugby League released the news didn’t exactly sit well with the majority of the sport’s fraternity.

Sky are said to be in the driving seat behind the new restructure of rugby league which has hit the headlines in recent months, but their release of key information such as Connor’s new deal has been identified as a ‘shocker’.

The 26-year-old has also gone on to represent England and Great Britain, as well as recently impressing for the Combined Nations All-Stars in the mid-season international.

Connor has enjoyed an exemplary season in the fullback role under Brett Hodgson, contributing 20 assists along the way, which has seen him placed in the top five for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel award.

Despite understandable interest in his services from across the game, Hull have secured a deal for the fans’ favourite and one of the games brightest stars – with Connor admitting he now wants to enhance his growing reputation with the club having committed his future to Hull.

Speaking to hullfc.com, Connor said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to get my contract finalised. It was an absolute no-brainer for me; the club has treated me well since day one and I’m really glad to get it sorted, and I’m looking forward to cracking on.

“It was an easy decision to sign. It never got to a stage where I wanted to look elsewhere, I always wanted to stay here and didn’t really speak to anyone else. I’ve been here for five seasons now and wanted to extend that longer.

“The ultimate aim for me is to win silverware. I think under Brett, we’ve played some really good rugby this year and we’ve got the squad to kick on and improve.
