World Club Challenge set for later date in 2021

Super League has confirmed that next year’s World Club Challenge won’t take place in February or March as usual.

The game, which sees the Super League champions take on the winners of the NRL, is usually held early in the British season, and before the Australian campaign has gotten underway.

However, following the disruption to the calendars of both competitions this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, next season will start later than usual in order to allow clubs a full pre-season.

That, in turn, will force other events to also be pushed back, including the World Club Challenge.

Super League have confirmed they are considering other options for the game to be played later in the year.

Factors such as a busy rugby league schedule, including the Rugby League World Cup, and the uncertainty surrounding international travel will all have to be taken into account.
