Anthony Gelling charged with assault, due to appear before Warrington Magistrates Court today

Anthony Gelling has been charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm and will appear before Warrington Magistrates Court today.

It relates to an incident involving his partner in early February with Gelling, 29, detained by police at his home in Widnes before being released on conditional bail.

The Cook Islands international was subsequently stood down by the Warrington Wolves just weeks after making his debut for the club, having signed from local rivals Widnes prior to the season.

The Wolves released a statement shortly after, stating: “Warrington Wolves can confirm that centre Anthony Gelling will not be available for selection pending a club investigation into conduct away from the club.

“Gelling is fully supportive of the investigation. The club and player will be making no further comment at this time.”

After a month away from the action, Gelling returned and scored a try in Warrington’s 38-4 win at Hull FC in the final match before the season was suspended.
