Ryan Hampshire: “I feel I am worth a little bit more than the offer is”

Wakefield Trinity hero Ryan Hampshire is still hoping to sign a new contract with the club after his two tries helped them secure Super League status.

Trinity relegated London on Friday night with a 19-10 win, with Hampshire scoring a try in each half.

The 24-year-old is out of contract with Wakefield, while there has been much speculation about his future for some time now.

He and the club have been in discussions for a number of months but are yet to reach an agreement on his contract.

“It is pretty poor from my side and we will see what happens with my future in the next few weeks,” he said.

“Tonight (Friday), I showed how much this club means to me.

“I just feel coming into this game, the last few weeks – I don’t like to blow myself up – but I have been the top try-scorer, got top assists, most carries and played three positions when needed.

“So I just feel I am worth a little bit more than what the offer is.”

Wakefield have reportedly signed London fullback Alex Walker for 2020, while Morgan Escare is set to stay at Belle Vue, meaning Hampshire would be one of three players competing for the number one jersey should he sign a new deal.
