Salford Red Devils have revealed the signing of Gil Dudson on a season-long loan from Warrington Wolves.

The prop returns to the club he spent two very successful seasons between 2019-20, making 46 appearances and scoring three tries.

He will take number 27 and is in contention to feature against Wigan Warriors on Thursday night.

In 2019, the season we reached the Betfred Super League Grand Final, Dudson was named Players’ Player and Backroom Team Player of the Year.

He started in both the Grand Final and just over year later at Wembley Stadium, where Salford Red Devils were beaten by Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup final.

Since leaving Salford, Dudson has enjoyed spells at both Catalans Dragons and parent-club, Warrington Wolves, before making the switch here for the 2024 season.

Paul Rowley delighted to bring in Warrington Wolves prop

Salford Red Devils coach Paul Rowley told Sky Sports his side deserved more against Leeds Rhinos.

Head Coach, Paul Rowley has said to the club’s website: “I’m very happy to welcome Gil back to the club. He’s a very intelligent footballer and gives us much needed reinforcements to our middle unit.

“Having worked closely with Gil before I have trust in his ability and more importantly, I know he is the type of character that will fit into, and compliment our environment, which is one we are extremely protective, and proud of.”

Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease had added: “Once we knew Gil was available, we were quick to secure his signature again.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Gil back to the club. It is important to the coaching staff & players that when we bring an ex-player back into our environment he will enhance our drive, and ambition as a club.

“Gil will certainly do that; he is a winner and a very experienced Super League player. I personally can not wait to see him back in the Red Devils shirt.”

Sam Burgess new era

It really does feel like a new era at Warrington Wolves. The Wire are prioritising their young players and giving their first team talent who aren’t getting in the side opportunities elsewhere.

Gil Dudson has followed Matty Russell, Brad Dwyer and Joe Bullock with Russell and Bullock linking up with Hull FC and Brad Dwyer joining Leigh Leopards.

The Wolves are developing a new approach to things under Sam Burgess and it should be encouraging for their fans.
