Warrington Wolves man makes immediate switch

Sam Burgess, in Warrington Wolves gear, points to the sky.

Young Warrington Wolves player Ben Hartill has made an immediate loan move to Swinton Lions, for an initial three-week period.

Despite not yet making a first-team appearance, he has featured in all of their reserve fixtures in 2024.

The talented hooker could make his debut for the side when they face Sheffield Eagles at home on Sunday.

It’s only a short-term deal initially, but it could eventually be continued on a week-by-week basis.

The Wolves will be hoping Hartill can gain valuable first-team experience in the RFL Championship.

He has progressed through the Wolves’ development system, and was named their Academy’s “most valuable player” in 2023.

He was a captain in the Academy side last year, and scored a try in their Grand Final defeat to St Helens.

Ben is the son of former Warrington Wolves and Swinton Lions winger Dave Hartill.

Swinton Lions eye improvement after Harthill signing

Swinton have won just one of their three league games this season.

They were defeated 18-16 away at Whitehaven in a narrow affair in Round One, and suffered a further defeat on their travels in Round Two, with Widnes Vikings ending 28-10 victors.

However, they provided the shock of the RFL Championship season so far when they defeated title-hopefuls Toulouse Olympique at the Stade Ernest-Wallon.

They won the game 20-14, with tries from Rhys Williams, Josh Eaves, Jordan Gibson, and Richard Lepori sealing a famous win.

In the Challenge Cup, they comfortably defeated West Hull and Oldham on their way to the Fifth Round before eventually falling 14-12 to Sheffield Eagles.

They were knocked out of the 1895 Cup by Bradford Bulls at Odsal, losing 21-12.

Up next is a home fixture against Sheffield Eagles at Heywood Road, which will take place on Sunday 14th March at 3pm.

Their next three are Dewsbury Rams (H), Halifax Panthers (A) and Bradford Bulls (H).
