Three dark horses to win the Super League title in 2024

Following the release of the Super League fixtures for 2024 it’s the time of the year for predictions, with many fans opting for the safe and proven picks along the lines that St Helens and Wigan Warriors will battle it out for the Super League.

Last season went down to the wire with Saints, Wigan and Catalans Dragons battling for the top spot until the final day of the regular season which Wigan ultimately lifted, before also securing Grand Final against the Dragons, ending the Saint’s four-year reign.

This season looks like another season to remember, with all the expected favourites recruiting elite players and looking ready to challenge for the Super League once more. But who are the three possible dark horses for the title?

Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos had a disappointing 2023 season, finishing 8th and four points from the play-off places. The Rhinos hope to bounce back with signings such as Andy Ackers, Brodie Croft, Paul Momirovski, and many more.

These signings, along with the promising young players at the club, put them in a great position to challenge for silverware next season, and optimistic fans believe that this could be their year to win the Super League after a seven-year wait.

Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves had a great start to the season, winning their first eight games, and looked to challenge for the Super League. But as the season went on, the fixtures were coming in fast and with a couple of crucial injuries, Warrington began to fade.

After ten straight defeats in the Super League, Warrington clinched sixth place on the final day with only 28 points despite collecting 16 points in their first eight games. With new Head Coach Sam Burgess being appointed fans will be hopeful that the former England captain can lead the Wire into a new chapter and push for a possible silverware next season.

Leigh Leopards

It has been a season to remember for Leigh Leopards because after clinching promotion in the 2022 season, many Leigh fans (and plenty of neutrals) believed they would struggle in the Super League.

However, thanks to the investment of Derek Beaumont that brought in ten new signings they were able to create a squad Super League quality including strike centres Zak Hardaker and Ricky Leutele among other impressive position groups. As such the Leopards had a great season and for large parts of the season, were nearing top of the table.

During that time, they went all the way to win the Challenge Cup final against Hull KR, which was a massive achievement for the club. However, it did appear that the Leopards couldn’t kick on within the league following that peak.

They struggled to get a run of form together and ended up fifth, sacrificing the crucial home advantage for their play-off clash with Hull KR, a game they would go on to lose.

Looking on to next season, Leigh will hope to repeat their success of silverware last year and push for the Super League title with the help of a couple more signings such as former Australian international Matt Moylan.

Although it was a massive surprise to see Leigh win the Challenge Cup, it did genuinely happen and so Rugby League fans shouldn’t be shocked next season to see the Leopards challenging for the Super League.
