Could Super League be set for radical restructure?

Super League launch

The RFL have confirmed a radical restructuring of the lower leagues but could the same be set to happen to Super League?

Before the announcement, the return of the Super 8s as a way of promotion and relegation between the Championship and League One like it had been used in Super League from 2015-18, it had long been rumoured.

It was reported by The Game Caller who also reported that Super League could be headed for a restructure increasing to 14 teams.

This would require more teams to be added to the lower leagues to maintain their new system but a problem that could emerge is if more teams receive Grade A than the 12 in Super League then this new restructure will come undone.

Leeds Rhinos boss Rohan Smith makes cheeky Bevan French remark

The RFL have made a lot of Changes to the sport at all levels including Super League. In fact, the RFL have introduced a lot of changes to rules in Super League.

This includes limited game time for players within Super League but it seems never everyone is happy about this.

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Rohan Smith has had his say on new RFL rules with a cheeky jibe involving Wigan Warriors star Bevan French.

Cam Smith played nearly 80 minutes against the Catalans Dragons last week. This led to questions about the RFL‘s new player load rules which restricts players from playing too many games.

On this, Rohan Smith made a cheeky comment:

“I don’t intend on playing Cam 80 minutes every week, but it’s great to have a player that can keep playing in the middle for as long as you need. Cam is the first to admit he wants to improve his game. He doesn’t see it as a finished product by any means. He also has the ability to recover and that’s the thing. For those big minute guys, they’re the ones that can really recover. They all get tired, but he recovers quite well. We’ll see how that minutes played stuff gets applied when the big games come and you know.”

“Bevan French can’t play in a playoff game because he’s played in the Challenge Cup and run out of game time.”
