Super League Disciplinary: Star forward escapes ban

Catalans Dragons player Bayley Sironen faces Castleford Tigers. He faces Super League diciplinary action.

After the Match Review Panel handed him a Grade E charge, a Super League disciplinary decision has been reached on Catalans Dragons’ Bayley Sironen at a tribunal.

The forward moved to Perpignan after signing from NRL side New Zealand Warriors ahead of the 2024 season, joining brother Curtis who plays for St Helens in the Super League.

Although team-mate Arthur Romano was sin-binned, it’s Sironen who was the only player from Els DracsĀ to be charged from the weekend’s action meaning he was the latest player to be subject to the Super League disciplinary process.

He was given a Grade E Head Contact charge following Catalans’ defeat to Huddersfield Giants in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

Grade E charges are automatically referred to the Operational Rules Tribunal.

Also automatically referred to the tribunal was Castleford Tigers’ Sylvester Namo, who was given a Grade F Dangerous Contact charge for his tackle in an incident which led to an injury to Wigan Warriors star Willie Isa.

Hull KR also appealed the decision to give forward Jesse Sue a Grade B Dangerous Contact charge with a one-match Penalty Notice, so he joined them at the tribunal.

The decision on Bayley Sironen has now been reached.

It has been confirmed by the RFL that Bayley Sironen will not be banned with the Operational Rules Tribunal finding him not guilty.

This was revealed by the RFL who have released a brief statement explaining why.

It read: “Bayley Sironen of Catalans Dragons was cleared of a Grade E Head Contact charge following an incident in Saturdayā€™s Quarter Final against Huddersfield Giants, following the submission of additional footage by the Dragons to the MRP, with the ORT then ratifying their decision to drop the charge.”
