St Helens managed to overcome Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium last night in what was a hugely entertaining affair.
Saints were able to finally take the two points home with a 12-10 win, but only after their opponents had pushed them all the way in what was Warrington’s best performance of the season.
Unfortunately however, the game ended up being marred by crowd trouble – something which the Warrington club had spoken out about during the week after being fined a hefty amount.
One St Helens fan tweeted: “I’m all for a great atmosphere, but there are lines being crossed now. It’s not big and clever throwing a pint at a player and I know Wire did similar but that was also a disgrace, but flares are completely OTT especially when one hits one of our own & he ends up in an ambulance.”

Well said. I’m over it now. Throwing stuff at players and flares into fans is not adding to any atmosphere in my book. Just spoils it for everyone else.

Unfortunately some found it necessary to throw a pint of beer at one of the Warrington players and more all over the rest of us plus a couple of flares one of which landed in amongst the Saints spectators. Not a great night.

Three Super League clubs had been fined during the week for breaches of the Operational Rules relating to fan misbehaviour in the 2022 season.
Castleford Tigers were fined £5,000, of which £3,000 is suspended until the end of the 2024 season, following incidents in three away fixtures – at Hull KR on February 25, Huddersfield Giants on March 12 and a Challenge Cup tie at Leeds Rhinos on March 26.
Hull KR were fined £2,000 – the activation of a suspended £2,000 fine imposed for an Operational Rules breach in the 2021 season relating to supporter misbehaviour – with a further £2,000 fine suspended until the end of the 2023 season, relating to their home game against Castleford on February 25.
And, Warrington Wolves agreed to pay costs of £3,000 for the damage done to visiting supporters’ coaches after their home fixture against Castleford Tigers on February 17 – with an additional fine of £2,000 imposed for failing to adopt appropriate measures in controlling the behaviour of spectators. That fine is suspended until the end of the 2023 season.
