Salford Red Devils confirm departure of Scotland international

It’s the off-season which means it’s the time of recruitment and retention but sadly not all players can be retained, that being the case for Danny Addy with Salford Red Devils confirming the release of the 32-year-old utility player.

Addy leaves the club having played 41 times for the Red Devils during his three year stint with 15 appearances in Super League for Paul Rowley’s side during the recently completed 2023 season.

The Scotland international is yet another departure from the club with Welsh international Rhys Williams having left recently, whilst star spine players Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers made big money moves to Leeds Rhinos. Where Addy will end up is unclear but the club endeavoured to wish him well in their statement confirming the news.

Posted on their website, the announcement read: “We can confirm Danny Addy has departed Salford Red Devils.

“The Scotland international joined the club from the then-Leigh Centurions in December 2020 and has since made 41 appearances.

“He leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club and we would like to thank him for his efforts during his time in the red and white.”

Reflecting on his time at Salford, Addy said: “I would like to thank everyone involved for the last three years at Salford. I have loved my time here and met some friends for life – thank you!”

Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease has added: “Danny is a first-class professional and it has been a pleasure to work alongside him for the last three years.

“He has made a big contribution to the club and I know his teammates – past and present – hold him in very high regard.

“I would like to thank Danny for his contribution to the club and wish him the best of luck in his future ventures!”

Addy’s departure comes just a day after the arrival of talented young half-back Kai Morgan who has arrived from Leeds Rhinos, the young playmaker having paired Jack Sinfield during his time at the Rhinos academy and having even lifted the 2022 Reserves Grand Final.

Earlier in the week the Red Devils had confirmed the arrival of former St Helens man Matty Foster as well as Hull KR winger Ethan Ryan, whilst former Leeds man Nene Macdonald had been confirmed earlier in the off-season with the Papua New Guinea international penning a four-year deal to play under Paul Rowley following his dramatic Headingley exit.
