RL Rumours: Leeds Rhinos set to sign Salford Red Devils duo, Jackson Hastings shuts down potential Super League return and Morgan Smithies to the NRL

Below is a round-up of all the biggest rumours and gossip from the world of rugby league over the past week.

Leeds Rhinos lining up Salford duo

Rumours have been circling for a couple of weeks that Leeds Rhinos are interested in Brodie Croft, however according to reports from Leeds Live they are also making a play for Croft’s Salford teammate Andy Ackers. These two transfers have also gathered more speed following yesterday’s shock announcement that Nene Macdonald has penned a four year deal with the Red Devils, which Serious About Rugby League understands will lead to an announcement from the Headingley outfit confirming Croft and Ackers arrivals at Headingley.

Jackson Hastings shuts down Salford move

Last night, rumours from the infamous Mole from the Wide World of Sport emerged that former Super League man of steel Jackson Hastings was attracting the interest of Salford Red Devils; however Hastings has today played these down. Posting on social media, the former Salford and Wigan Warriors man said: “The reports on my future this morning are completely false and fabricated as per regarding me. I’m extremely happy, settled & loving my footy at Newcastle and can’t wait to build on what we started this season. Don’t believe everything you read.”

Morgan Smithies set for Wigan Warriors departure

Much has been made of the new recruits that will arrive at the DW Stadium in 2024, however now they look set to lose on of their brightest stars. According to reports from the Daily Telegraph in Australia, Smithies is attracting the interest of the Canberra Raiders, with a six-figure bid from the Australian side being mentioned. Smithies previously signed with an Australian agent back in May, and it now looks like that will lead to Smithies donning the green jersey of the Raiders next year, following the likes of Elliot Whitehead in playing for the Raiders.

Milford to Leigh close to completion

Leigh Leopards are reportedly close to finalising a deal for Dolphins halfback Anthony Milford, according to reports from both Fox League and Sky Sports reporter Jenna Brooks. Brooks revealed the news during Sky’s coverage of the semi-final between Catalans Dragons  St Helens. Milford joined the Dolphins this season and has made 11 appearances, but he looks set to depart after just one season in Redcliffe.

Justin Olam in line for Super League switch

Melbourne Storm centre Justin Olam has once again been linked with a move to Super League, this time it comes from the notorious Mole from the Wide World of Sport. Posting on social media last week, the infamous Mole said: “Don’t be surprised if he has played his last game in the NRL…. Super League bound…”. Olam has previously been linked with a move to Warrington Wolves, however the Wire instead made a play for Olam’s PNG teammate Roderick Tai; however this new update from the Mole suggests we could see Olam on our shores soon.
