Images emerge after Championship star suffers gruesome injury

Will Dagger Championship

An image of Championship star Will Dagger ‘s gruesome armpit injury has been shared online with the ex-Hull KR utility having had several stitches on a gaping wound.

Images have emerged on X that show Will Dagger’s injury and they are incredibly graphic so we have posted them at the bottom of this article, so as to give readers of a squeamish disposition plenty of warning.

Dagger joined York Knights ahead of the 2024 campaign after having impressed at Wakefield Trinity during their relegation campaign last year.

The full-back’s move to play for the Knights actually marks his second spell at the club after joining them on loan back in 2018 whilst still on the books at Hull KR.

It’s with Hull KR that Dagger has played most of his rugby league and he brought up his 50th appearance for the Robins in 2023 before making the move to Wakefield for whom he shone.

The 25-year-old has played has played four times for Andrew Henderson’s side this season with his ‘second debut’ for the Knights coming in their historic 114-10 win over Newcastle Knights in the 1895 Cup, a game that saw Dagger score three tries and kick nine goals to rack up 30 points.

Fast forward to yesterday’s game and Round Three in the Championship and the full-back had to leave the field with what York initially described on their X feed as a “shoulder injury”.

York were 6-4 up at the time but would go on to lose the game 15-14 thanks to a late Barrow score and then a dramatic last-minute drop goal.

More concerning though will be how long they’ll lose Dagger for though with the 25-year-old clearly set to be sidelined for an extended period after graphic images of his injury appeared online.

Championship star’s graphic injury

It’s worth noting that York Knights haven’t made any official comments on the injury, none beyond their initial post on X that noted Dagger had “come off holding his shoulder”.

Images have emerged on X though showcasing Dagger’s injury which can only be described as a gaping tear of his armpit.

There is also a second image that show the impressive stitching job that has been done to try and mend the horror injury, with remnants of blood still evident highlighting just how nasty the injury was.

With no clear way to diagnose the injury beyond an ‘armpit injury’ and no confirmation from the club for how long he’ll be sidelined, it’s unclear when Dagger will next take the field.

For now though, all at Serious About Rugby League wish him the best in his recovery.
