“I’m not…” – Steve McNamara speaks on James Bentley incident

Catalans Dragons Head Coach Steve McNamara has had his say after his side lost to Leeds Rhinos on Saturday afternoon with huge controversial moments including an incident with James Bentley.

There were a number of controversial moments including three yellow cards for McNamara’s side.

However, there have been claims that James Bentley should have been sin binned or sent off after an incident with Tariq Sims.

McNamara was asked about the incident after the game and he said:

“Oh no, I’m not going to comment on any specific ones, no. It’s a very hard job for everybody involved, we all understand that as coaches. And we’re still working some of those things out, so let’s leave it at that for now.”

He also highlighted his side’s inability to score as a key reason for them not getting the win: “Oh, I thought we had enough field position there that we should have come up with some points, but I don’t think it’s an issue with just the spine. It’s a team effort. It’s a team sport. I don’t think I would play the ball speeds. We created no momentum in that first half, that’s what our defence did. We stifled the lead, we kept them at the right end of the field. But we’ve just got plenty of points as the season goes on, don’t worry about that.”

He also had his say on Jordan Abdull’s performance: “Yeah, we got, our halves offer something different, each one of them. Jordan’s kicking game is well known. But ultimately, like I said today, we got ourselves in the position to win that game, I’m sure. Jordan and everybody involved there, we wish we could have just done a little bit better, because like I said, we have had enough field position, possession, to probably go on and get that game done.”
