“I think…”- Hull KR boss reacts after Challenge Cup ‘revenge’ over Leigh Leopards

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters speaking with a microphone

Willie Peters has spoken after his side’s Challenge Cup win over Leigh Leopards with the Hull KR boss refusing to get carried away but reflecting on the lessons learned from last year’s Wembley heartbreak.

After that heart-wrenching loss in the Challenge Cup final to Leigh Leopards last year, Hull KR showed their resilience and determination by turning the tables this year. They emerged victorious with a 26-14 win, securing their spot in the semi-final.

Peters reflected on his side’s performance against the Leopards and what he learned from last year’s heartbreaking Challenge Cup final defeat.

Peters said: “We’re certainly not getting carried away. We know that we’ve got a long way to go, but we’re certainly heading in the right direction and if we stay hungry, hopefully good things will happen off the back of it.

“I think you learn a lot from experiences. We learned a lot from that Challenge Cup and when we played League two weeks later and then again in the semi, I thought we executed probably what we didn’t do so well.” Peters concluded.

Mikey Lewis had spoken live on the BBC about the game serving as “revenge” for that Wembley defeat.

The half-back explained: “It’s an unbelievable moment for me and for the fans. We don’t want to dwell on last year but it gives us a taste of it. We didn’t really speak about it all week because we just wanted to do a revenge on them. We’ve done that today so we’re really happy.”

It’s been a great start for Hull KR in the Super League, winning five and losing two so far this season. They are currently fourth in the League with ten points and two points behind leaders Catalans Dragons, who they play next week.

Peters discusses the importance of preparing well for every game this season and what makes Super League so special.

He explained: “What makes our competition so special now is how tight it is. It’s every game you play. We’ve got a tough game against Catalans next week, and it’ll be similar to that.”

Hull KR are gearing up for a thrilling match against the Catalans Dragons next weekend, aiming to level the points with the Dragons at the top of the table. The team’s preparation and determination are sure to make this a game to remember.
