Hull KR signing returns to former club

Hull KR half-back Ben Reynolds has returned to his former club Featherstone Rovers and is set to play for the Flat Cappers against Doncaster this weekend.

Reynolds signed for Featherstone ahead of the 2024 season but left without having played a game in the league, but crucially he did play in the Challenge Cup.

As such it means that Reynolds is cup-tied and cannot play for Hull KR in tomorrow’s game against Leigh Leopards, the side that Reynolds lifted the Challenge Cup with in 2023 when playing against the Robins.

Instead, he’s been named in Featherstone Rovers’ Championship squad with Hull KR having a dual-registration deal with James Ford’s side that has seen several Robins earn game time in the Championship.

In fact, Ford has named four Hull KR players in his side with props Zach Fishwick and Yusuf Aydin set to feature for Fev alongside centre Corey Hall.

Both Hall and Aydin had been named in KR’s 21-man squad to face Leigh meaning that they’ll drop out and instead ply their trade this weekend out on dual reg.

Featherstone confirmed that Reynolds was representing them as part of the two teams’ dual registration agreement meaning that it’s not a loan deal, with loans having a mandatory two-week minimum period that can only be prevented should the RFL grand dispensation.

That happened recently with Warrington Wolves who were able to recall prop Max Wood with Bradford’s consent and the RFL’s permission because Sam Burgess’ side were without three senior props.

Featherstone confirmed the dual-reg deal for Reynolds in their squad announcement statement: “”A notable inclusion in the 21-man squad is Ben Reynolds who will link back up with the squad on dual-registration from Hull KR. Reynolds started the season with Featherstone before moving to Hull KR to fulfil his wish of being in a full-time environment.

“With playmaker Thomas Lacans ruled out through injury, Reynolds will boost our squad in the halfback position.

“Reynolds joins Corey Hall, Yusuf Aydin and Zach Fishwick as part of the dual-registration agreement this week.”

James Ford said: “Benny will be back in our squad at the weekend.

“We were all disappointed to lose Ben when he moved to Hull KR but we understood why he wanted that move to go ahead. As a club, we wished him all the best.

“He’s a quality Rugby League player who knows our systems and how we want to play the game.

“We all feel that we will be a better team with Benny Reynolds in it and we look forward to seeing him in action at the weekend.”

Reynolds had joined just one week into the Super League season to boost Hull KR and act as the club’s back-up half behind Tyrone May and Mikey Lewis.
