Hull KR set for welcome boost ahead of Catalans fixture

Tom Garratt and George King of Hull KR celebrate after their teams win over Hull FC

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has revealed that his side have been handed a major boost ahead of their Super League fixture against Catalans Dragons on Saturday.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Peters was asked about the state of his side in terms of injuries.

Asked about George King, who was previously not expected to be back from a hamstring injury for another couple of weeks, he offered welcome news:

“George has come on quicker than what we expected, which is great news.

“He’s a possibility for this week, we’re not sure yet.

“So we’ll give George to the end of the week to pass everything that he needs to and then he’s a possibility of playing this week. If not, it’ll be next week.

We’re not sure and we’ll finalise more. We’ll speak to the players around what the team looks like on Thursday.

“Usually we’d sort of have a better idea earlier in the week but George is a possibility.”

Originally expected to return in Round Ten or Eleven, he could be back before that. Asked about his recovery, the Australian said: “He’s a warrior.

“George is one of those players that hasn’t had too many over the years.

“He plays week in, week out, obviously knows how to play through being hurt.

“Being hurt and being injured is two different things. Some players can’t play when they’re hurt.

“George certainly can. He knows how to handle pain.

George’s was initially six weeks and there is a possibility it could be back this week.

“He knows his body, George, but the issue with hamstrings is you need to be right mentally.

“You could feel okay, but you need to tick off a lot of boxes. “We’ve got a really great medical team here that have worked hard to get George into the position he’s in now.

“So now it’s a matter of just making sure George is okay.

“He’s got to do some other tests to get through. He’s got other tests to get through.”

Alongside George King, Oliver Gildart returns to the squad after being out with a concussion.

There are no other major injury concerns for the Robins this week.

Asked whether he’s heard much on Jordan Abdull, who is on a season-long loan from Hull KR to this weekend’s opponents, he said: “We haven’t heard anything.

“Obviously Danny, our head of performance, will speak to those guys but I’m not too sure the severity of it.

“He’s got a hamstring issue at the moment so I’m not too sure when he’ll be back.

“Jordan’s a Catalans player and I’m sure they’ll look after him the best he can with his rehab.”
