England star joins award-winning band to launch Christmas song

In the strangest news of the week so far NRL and England star Tom Burgess has linked up with Australian band The Wiggles, launching a new Christmas album with the video seeing Burgess in a bright green elf outfit.

Less than a month ago Burgess was turning out for England as they tied up their three nil series win over Tonga with South Sydney’s prop playing in all three matches.

Fast forward to now and the video of Burgess and Rabbitohs teammates Damien Cook and Alex Johnston has been launched, with the trio dressed as Santa’s little helpers.

The trio are linking up with long-running Australian band The Wiggles who have sold millions of records and won countless awards for their music aimed at children.

This latest single is title “We Three Elves” with the Rabbitohs players being the centre of attention as they dance and sing along in Father Christmas’ workshop.

It might perhaps be the strangest rugby league collaboration of all time but certainly one that makes sense with The Wiggles being one of the best selling bands of all time, particularly down under.

The group have been active over 30 years since forming in 1991 and are based out of Sydney having huge success, selling over 23 million DVDs and 7 million CDs.

Having had multiple members across the years they reformed in 2005 and were then ranked atop Business Review Weekly’s top-earn Aussies for four years straight, tallying earnings of $45 million in 2009.

Only yesterday did the band share that they were the most listened to Australian artist on music streaming service Spotify with Australia, indicating the huge following that they have.

This latest work with the Rabbitohs stars is part of their Christmas album with the song available on Youtube.

It was launched via the band’s X profile, formerly Twitter, with the caption: “Christmas is coming, and things are getting very busy at the North Pole! Santa has recruited three new elves to help out in his workshop … Cookie, Tom and AJ!”

Burgess himself has since reacted to the comical footage of him dancing and singing along, claiming the experience was a great one and primarily done for his young daughters.

The forward posted: “Pretty cool to work with The Wiggles on their new Christmas album. Also my girls think it’s awesome so that’s all that matters.”

It’s certainly an image worth putting on the Burgess family postcard that’s for sure.
