Daryl Powell looks to “turning point” when Huddersfield Giants man “should’ve been binned” as he explains defeat

Things don’t get any easy for Warrington.

After heartbreak last week as Hull KR turned things around late on, the same happened again today as Warrington lost Joe Bullock to the sin bin and surrendered a 22-14 lead to lose 32-22.

After the dame, Daryl Powell dissected the defeat identifying one key moment:”That’s a pretty tough period in rugby league when you get a bloke binned.

“I thought we handled probably five sets on our line and then they score on the last play, we just didn’t have the ball. We didn’t have the ball for large period of the second half.

“There was a turning point when Matt Dufty tripped up and they get a second tackle set on the back of that and it probably should’ve been binned. He misses that.

“Then Bullock gets binned which I thought was fair but the Dufty incident should’ve been as well.

“It’s deja vu, it’s tough to take.”

He did express that he felt his side are doing good things and that this defeat was different from the loss to Hull KR and a prior one to Salford: “We were doing lots of good things.

“It’s just periods in games, I thought this one was a little bit different the weight of possession against us with 12 men.”

Powell was also asked a question on the threat of relegation. Now Wakefield in 11th are just two points behind them whilst Toulouse remain four points off them with Warrington set to play them in the run in.

Powell acknowledged the magnitude of that game but said he wants to see his side beat Wigan first: “One’s got a bit closer after last night. That game against Toulouse becomes an unbelievably important game. For me I think we need to go and win next week and that’s what we need to be aiming for. We need to believe we can go and beat Wigan next week.”
