Daryl Powell assesses the challenges facing Castleford’s new coach

With the news that Daryl Powell will be leaving Castleford at the end of the season, the rumour mill has been spinning consistently about who will replace him.

However, despite thoroughly enjoying his time at the Jungle and waxing lyrical about the group of players his successor will inherit, Powell did give a few pointers as to how the club can improve once he has left.

“The facilities need improving here and I’m hopeful that will happen – that is the next stage for the club,” Powell stated.

“From a playing group perspective, we’ve got a really high quality group of people who believe in the club and have high standards in everything they do.

“Whoever takes that on will think these boys are a a pleasure to coach; they believe in the cause and I think we’ve got that in massive quantities.

In his time at Castleford, Powell has reinstilled the ‘Classy Cas’ mantra that the club has been famous for in the past, but the former Leeds and Featherstone boss said he wouldn’t be surprised if the new boss changes things around.

“There’s an expectation on the way this team plays, but every coach has different philosophies, but this is a special place to coach.”
