Castleford Tigers set to announce signings in coming days

Castleford Tigers head coach Craig Lingard

Following Castleford Tigers head coach Craig Lingard’s latest comments, it seems that there will be some new names at Wheldon Road in the coming days.

The Tigers could only name 19 players, rather than the usual 21-man squad, for their Challenge Cup game against Wigan – and it’s clear that new signings are needed.

Before that match, head coach Craig Lingard said: “It’s difficult obviously getting the content on the field out there when you’ve got 15 people that have been unable to train all week and there’s not many of them that are going to be rushing back in either.”

There was an injury list of fifteen players for that game, and after new signing Sylvester Namo was handed a Grade F Dangerous Contact charge this week, that’s another man down until the summer.

He also said before that game: “Yeah, calls have been made and calls and discussions are happening on an hourly basis, but with it being a Challenge Cup weekend this weekend it’s really difficult.”

Following the Wigan game, Lingard reiterated his, and the club’s intention to bring people in: “We’re hoping to get some in next week but again situations at clubs change minute by minute and game by game.

“Alex Mellor got a whack on his shoulder. Joe Westerman is hurt with his ankle again, he’s put his hand up to play,” Lingard told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I think it’s important that we try and make sure that we get the players fit and ready for, ultimately, the London game.

“So if there’s anybody that’s not available this week or 50-50 this week then we will probably rest them [against Wigan].

“We’re trying to get some bodies in which we’re hopefully going to get some in next week at some point but we’ll… like I said last week, the conversation we’re having with other clubs, they’re consistently fluid and continuously fluid because situations change at other clubs based on their injury record and the number of positions they need to cover.

“We’re hopefully getting some in this week, so that’s just constantly flowing.”

Castleford Tigers again face Wigan Warriors, in Super League action on Friday at 8pm with broadcast details of that game and all other rugby league games on TV available here.
