It was reported earlier that Castleford Tigers had filed to appoint a new director who had “significant control” of the club, and now the Super League side have reacted to the news.

Initially the story of this new director broke because of an update filed through government website ‘Companies House’, in which businesses detail their financial standings as well as the registering who is involved with such businesses.

Two filings were passed yesterday, 30th November 2023, a notification that Martin Clive Jepson had become a “person with significant control”, and then the appointment of Mr Jepson as a director.

The term significant control denotes that Mr Jepson had acquired more than 25% of the club’s shares, but no more than 50%, whilst he appointment as director had to be consented to by those high up within the club.

Mr Jepson is reportedly a Castleford native with the Companies House form listing him as a ‘chartered surveyor’, but he’s actually a major real estate magnate.

He established Ergo Real Estate in 2018 after prior work in the industry to a high level, having won ‘Deal of the Year’ awards each year between 2012 and 2016.

Jepson has also been president and COO of Brookfield Property Partners, as well as holding executive positions with Hammerson, Howard Holdings, Taylor Woodrow and Delancey.

It would seem he could be set to become a major investor and help Castleford resolve plenty of financial struggles, however the club have now responded to the news by releasing a statement to their website.

The statement read: “Castleford Tigers would like to make the following statement surrounding the news of the addition of a new Director of the Club on Companies House.

“As many will be aware, the club has been actively looking for the right investors to come on board for a number of years. Although a new Director has been added to Companies House, we are not yet in a position to announce the full detail at this stage and we hope this is understood and appreciated by all. We are preparing for an official announcement and will be making a further statement by the end of next week.

“We look forward to sharing the full details of this positive news and we thank you for your continued support.”

It’s a sign of a major development set to happen at the club who are stepping into a new era under Craig Lingard and Danny McGuire.
