Castleford Tigers 30-10 St Helens: Highlights, player ratings and talking points

Castleford Tigers hosted St Helens at the Jungle tonight with the visitors, in particular, fielding a much-changed side.

The Tigers ran out 16-14 winners against Leeds Rhinos on Easter Monday, but they looked lacklustre in that game. Despite that, head coach Lee Radford hasn’t tinkered too much with his side with only Niall Evalds missing out.

On the other hand, Kristian Woolf put in seven debutants – three of whom started and four of whom were on the bench following a big win over Huddersfield Giants.

Highlights

Jason Qareqare sprinting 80 metres, beating four men along the way was an absolute joy to behold.

Jumah Sambou’s first try was a great moment for the 20-year-old and he took it expertly well.

Talking points

1. Saints stand tall

Credit must go to the youthful St Helens side that travelled over the M62 tonight because they were valiant in effort and determination. Though their attack looked clunky, the Saints’ defence was superb and full of vim and vigour, forcing the Tigers into touch on a number of occasions.

2. Go Qare Go

What a player this young man is! Jason Qareqare recently signed a new two-year deal with Castleford and he celebrated that with a stunning try in the opening minutes, weaving his way around four Saints men to dot down emphatically.

3. Professional job

Castleford were far from slick, but they did a professional job on a youthful St Helens side. When Saints threatened to get back into it at 18-10, the Tigers quickly went up the other end and scored with Paul McShane pulling the strings.
