Former Wigan prop and new St George Illawarra signing George Burgess is being investigated by the NSW police and NRL’s integrity unit after being involved in a road incident.
The 29-year-old was in Wollongong on the NSW coast when he allegedly became involved in a fracas with another motorist.
A police statement claims a 32-year-old man’s mobile phone was allegedly damaged when Burgess, 29, grabbed it from him and threw it on the roadway following a verbal altercation.
“St George Illawarra are aware of an alleged road incident involving 2022 recruit George Burgess,” a Dragons statement read.
“The NRL integrity unit have been informed.
“As the police are currently investigating the matter, the Dragons will be making no further comment at this stage.”
Wigan won the race for him when Burgess became available for a move to Super League.
Unfortunately, injuries meant his career at the DW never got going with just eight appearances under Burgess’ belt.
A major hip problem saw his season curtailed and ahead of 2021 he was released by mutual consent owing to his injury troubles, though surgery has reportedly put the issue to bed.
