Lee Radford suggests it would be bad for Super League if St Helens win five in a row

The Super League season kicks off on Thursday night as Warrington Wolves host Leeds Rhinos on Sky Sports at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

As the new season comes, there is one question on everyone’s lips and that is: can anyone stop St Helens from making it five Grand Finals on the spin?

Castleford Tigers Head Coach Lee Radford believes it is vital for the sport that the Saints don’t make it five titles in a row.

Speaking to Serious About Rugby League, Radford responded to the question ‘will this be one of the most competitive Super League seasons ever?’

“I hope it, as good as it St Helens running away with four,” Radford said, “You want to see everybody in the competition pushing them as close and as hard as you possibly can. You want to see some upset results, you don’t want to see the same group constantly. I think hopefully that’s an area where our sport can progress and you get the odd left-fielder come up and really shock a few teams in the process.”

Naturally, Radford wants it to be the Tigers to be the team to be the side who comes from left field and wins it.

He said:”I think if you look how everybody has got us finishing, the media and the bookies then I think we’re tipped to go sixth or seventh. For us striving for everywhere above and beyond that is really important for us.”
