Leigh Leopards sign FIVE players from Warrington Wolves

The newly rebranded Leigh Leopards have announced five signings from the Warrington Wolves.

Having dropped the ‘Centurions’ from their name earlier in the day in favour of ‘Leopards’, Leigh have followed that up with a number of new additions for the 2023 Super League season.

It was confirmed earlier in the day that Zak Hardaker and Ricky Leutele would be joining the Super League new boys, having just gained promotion from the Championship, and now five more new additions have been announced – all of which from Warrington.

Oliver Holmes, Jack Hughes, Robbie Mulhern, Matt Davis and Jacob Gannon will all be playing at the Leigh Sports Village next season.

The signings of Holmes, Hughes and Mulhern in particular are impressive given all three have very recently gained international honours, with Hughes represting Great Britain in 2019.

Along with Davis, they will bring a wealth of Super League experience to the Leopards as they build a squad capable of competing in the top division.

Leigh were relegated from Super League in 2021 after having limited time to prepare prior to that season.

It now appears owner Derek Beaumont and head coach Adrian Lam are wasting no time in building a squad capable of competing in the big league following their promotion only a few weeks ago.

Warrington Wolves confirmed the departure of Holmes to Leigh on their website, along with the other four players who had reached the end of their contracts at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The statement reads: “Warrington Wolves can confirm that Oliver Holmes has joined newly-rebranded and promoted Betfred Super League club Leigh Leopards for the 2023 season on a permanent deal.

“Holmes made 24 appearances for the Wire in 2022, scoring three tries, after making the move over from Castleford Tigers.

“We wish Ogi all the best for his future in the game and thank him for his time in the primrose and blue.

“The Leopards have also announced the recruitment of recently departed players Jack Hughes, Matt Davis, Robbie Mulhern and Jacob Gannon.”
