Leigh Centurions are set to join Super League again in 2023, and are hoping history doesn’t repeat itself.
Leigh have played in three Super League campaigns in 2005, 2017 and 2021 and from that it is clear that they have unfortunately never avoided relegation.
But with a star studded squad going into 2023, a great coach in Adrian Lam and a star halfback in his son Lachlan, they may not Lams to the slaughter next term.
Some will state that they are still favourites for the drop with the Centurions having to let go of a few players to meet the quota requirements in Super League but with what Lam confirmed was “a lot” of signings to be confirmed for next year, most of whom will likely be English players to navigate the quota, the Centurions could still be a strong force in Super League next year.
That’s certainly the view of four-time Super League Champion Kyle Amor who revealed the kind of money Leigh owner Derek Beaumont invests in the club chasing success as he covered the Centurions’ promotion on Premier Sports.
“The recruitment at Leigh Centurions, they’ve got it bang on,” Amor praised, “It’s 1.2 million that Leigh have spent more than Batley Bulldogs we think, they are full time.”
He believes that this recruitment will make them more than equipped for Super League next year: “Leigh Centurions are more than equipped for Super League for next season for sure.
“They’ve got a good depth, they can cope with injuries and they’ve got a good coach in Adrian Lam who crucially knows what it takes to get right to the Grand Final in Super League.
“Look out the rest of Super League.”
