Kristian Woolf on the difference between Hull FC and Hull KR victories as St Helens prepare for play-offs

After a bit of a blip recently, the Champions are ploughing ahead towards the play-offs and the League Leaders’ Shield with a massive win over Hull FC last night as well as a strong win over the other Hull side, Hull KR last night.

After the game, Head Coach Kristian Woolf reflected on the win acknowledging the threat the Robins posed in the second half.

“They’ve come up with a couple of good tries there in the second half,” Woolf told Saints TV, “It was one of those periods where they produced a couple of miracle plays but we could certainly be better on at least two of those.

“The one where they kick it across field was a bit of a miracle play for them and the one where they find the inside ball I thought we had plenty of chances to make our tackles and obviously didn’t.”

Despite those tries, Woolf was happy with the display comparing it to the win over Hull FC last week and acknowledging its benefit in preparing the Champions for the play-offs and a push for a fourth consecutive title: “We were good enough for really long periods there, at least when they found those tries they had to come up with those miracles plays.

“We played with a good intensity for the majority of the game, in the first 40 minutes in particular and for long periods in the second half. I thought we played some great footy.

“It was a little bit different to last week. The team we were playing had a real effort and kept coming at us for the whole 80 minutes.

“I thought we played some real good footy. In the first half we had to go with wave after wave of attack and be really disciplined about the way we went about it, I thought that was great from us.

“We’re preparing for the bigger games, we need to have an intensity, a discipline and a mindset where we can attack and still be disciplined with what we do with the ball.”
