Brad Dwyer will not be a Leeds player in 2023, that much is clear despite his terrific form which has seen him score three tries in three games.
Despite that, Dwyer looks set to play a key role in the Rhinos’ pursuit of play-off rugby which continues with a game against Salford – ironically one of Dwyer’s rumoured destinations – on Sunday as the Rhinos meet the current occupants of sixth in a must win game between the league’s two form sides based on the last two weeks.
With his future up in the air, Dwyer is determined to not let his good form evaporate and has outlined as such when speaking on the Rhinos’ YouTube channel.
He also spoke about the secret to his recent good form including his new facial hair: “Obviously we had a difficult start to the year and we’re getting back and stuff like that and obviously changing coaches but now we’ve got a bit of stability and obviously knowing my role just coming on and trying to have an impact has really freed me up.
“Since I’ve started growing the moustache I’ve scored three tries games so I can’t get rid of it today so as long as I keep scoring the moustache is staying.
“I’m really happy with my form.”
He also reflected on Leeds’ amazing comeback win against Catalans last week as they battled back from 30-6 down with a man sent off to win 36-32.
Dwyer also played a key role in it with a lovely solo try.
On the win, Dwyer said: “A lot of people were saying it was one of the best games they’ve been involved with. Where we’re at in the season, how desperate wins are at the moment, travelling to France a couple of weeks before, the weather and being behind in the game: it was a massive turn around.”
Lastly, he identified his time at Leeds as the highlight of his career and that he wants to end his time there on a high: “I want to impress and win every week, no matter what my situation is. It’s just given me clarity that I’m not going to be here and that’s fine. I’ve loved my time at the club and I’ve had so many great moments, I think it’s been the highlight of my career so I owe it to the fans to finish off on a high and hopefully we can do that collectively and personally.”
