NRL announces player safety measures

Thanks to the rising threat of COVID-19, the NRL has announced new safety measures in order to keep players, coaches and staff safe whilst the 2020 season continues.

ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys and NRL CEO Todd Greenberg announced a new “self-isolation program” for players, which will ensure that there will only be essential interaction between players and the general public.

“There’s only going to be essential interaction with our players and the general community,” V’landys explained to the NRL Media.

“Any non-essential contact will be reduced. The detail will be worked out so they are aware of their responsibilities.”

V’landys continued, explaining that the safety of the game’s players and staff remained the highest priority, but reiterated the importance of playing as many games as possible.

“The best advice we have received is that we can continue to play and we can continue another contingency is encountered.

“In order to have the game viable, we need to play every game, the finals series and the State of Origin series.

“That is our second objective and all players are on side with that, we need to see the season out.”
