‘Zero interest’ verdict given amid Warrington Wolves star’s NRL reports

Warrington Wolves

Reports of NRL interest in a Warrington Wolves star have had cold water poured on them as new information emerges.

It had been reported that NRL club Parramatta Eels were ‘interested’ in signing Wire prop Paul Vaughan with the report also claiming that Vaughan’s management were ‘pursuing a long-term contract’ for the 33-year-old.

The Australian is off contract at the end of the 2025 season with rival clubs set to circle and make offers for the former Test forward, however, new reports Down Under have claimed that the Eels have no interest in Vaughan.

Both The Mole of Wide World of Sports and David Riccio of The Daily Telegraph moved to add clarity to the situation as they poured cold water on the initial reports, something that Warrington Wolves fans will have been grateful for.

Through two seasons at the Super League club, Paul Vaughan has proven himself to be a fan favourite and despite a less dominant 2024 campaign, his time in England so far has largely been very impressive.

It’s no wonder that NRL teams could be seen to come knocking with Super League proving a popular hunting ground for forwards of late, as evidenced by Leigh Leopards seeing Tom Amone and Kai O’Donnell return down under after impressive two-year spells.

Vaughan’s two-year workload has arguably been as good as, or even better, than that duo but per these recent reports, that has not attracted interest from Parramatta Eels.

Late on Sunday evening, The Mole took to X first, stating: “Warrington Wolves have denied reports that Parramatta Eels have asked them to release star forward Paul Vaughan. “It’s not right” Wolves just told Moley.”

Initial reports from Rugby League Live had clarified that Wire were not prepared to enter contract negotiations currently and had therefore been asked about the possibility to ‘let Vaughan pursue opportunities that would offer more guarantees’.

Per The Mole, that answer was a resounding ‘No’ but David Riccio would go further and claim the Eels have no interest at all in the 33-year-old.

He took to X and said: “Put a line through it. There’s zero interest from Parramatta Eels in signing Paul Vaughan.”

Had Warrington Wolves lost Vaughan at this stage in the off-season, finding a suitable replacement would have been incredibly tough.

However, a desire could still linger for the 33-year-old to solidify his long-term future which may lead to further bouts of NRL or even Super League interest.
