Zak Hardaker’s future takes new twist as Wigan boss has his say

Adrian Lam has dismissed rumours that Zak Hardaker is set to leave Wigan.

Speculation has been mounting that Hardaker is set to be another one of Castleford’s new signings ahead of the 2022 season as incoming boss Lee Radford shapes his squad.

However, the former Leeds Rhinos and Castleford star – with whom he helped get to the 2017 Grand Final – is still under contract with the Warriors for the next two seasons.

That would mean that any move away from the DW Stadium would mean Wigan would have to release Hardaker or receive a substantial transfer fee for him.

And, now Wigan head coach Adrian Lam has had his say.

“Zak’s contracted to Wigan for the next two years and we’re excited about it and happy about it,” Lam said.

“That’s it. There’s no other news to tell.”

“Zak is coming back and making an impact and we’ve missed him during this season,” Lam said.

“With what he can offer for the rest of the year, I’m sure this’ll go away quickly so he can focus on doing his role for who we are.

“I’ve heard about it being on social media but there’s rumours every week.

“He’s enjoying his time here, he’s a big part of us moving forward and it’s all positive.

“Over the last two month he’s not played and he’s frustrated because he wants to play rugby.

“He’ll get an opportunity to do that now and we’re excited with what he brings.”

Wigan currently sit in fourth in the Super League table as they visit Hull KR on Friday night.
