With Leigh Leopards down to 12, there was another incident in their clash against York.
The Leopards could have lost Zak Hardaker for the rest of the game after a late hit.
He was sin binned but many suggested that it was a red card.
Speaking on Viaplay, Kyle Amor had his say on the incident claiming that it was the right call but Hardaker could be “in a lot of trouble.”
“Yeah, look, I personally thought it was a right call but it’s off the back of another error. It’s another error from Leigh, this time Gareth O’Brien fails to find touch,” Amor said.
“Zak Hardaker gets hold of AJ Towse and he just does a Cumberland throw. I think when we see the other angle, if he lands on his shoulder, I think he’s in a lot of trouble.
“The fact that he sort of lands on his shoulder almost saves it really. I do think the referee got that one right. However, you know, Mark and Cookie Tweeting as well, you know, they may be, you know, they may be talking to Red, but I thought the call was right.”
Amor was referencing a message from Paul Cooke to commentator Mark Wilson with Cooke saying it should have been a red.
Hardaker has only received a one match ban for the incident whilst, for a similar incident, teammate Kai O’Donnell faces upwards of six matches.
Many may question why?
The RFL minutes don’t provide much explanation with the two incidents regarded as “dangerous throws.”
Unsurprisingly, the grading sees O’Donnell hit harder than Hardaker but many will still ask why it isn’t a longer ban.
Part of the reason why was likely the way AJ Towse landed after the tackle, it wasn’t as dangerous as some other positions we have seen players.
Also it is likely the opinion of referee Jack Smith, who only saw the incident as a yellow, played a factor.
