York sign Super League centre

York City Knights have signed Wigan Warriors’ James McDonnell on a new week-to-week loan deal.

McDonnell, 21, made two appearances for the Knights earlier this season in his previous loan spell against Widnes Vikings and Oldham RLFC.

The youngster has worked under Head Coach James Ford previously within the England Academy setup, helping England to a series victory over the Australian Schoolboys in 2018.

On the return of McDonnell, Ford said: “I’m delighted to be able to bring James back to the club. he carries plenty of contact, work ethic and a desire to compete at everything. I’ve really enjoyed coaching James previously and jumped at the chance of working with him again.”

McDonnell himself added: “It’s great to be back with York. I feel like my first loan spell was cut too short, I’m hoping I can get some more game time and help York on their way to achieving what they want from this year.”
